The Circuit

Does your council have a defibrillator?  If so, it must be registered with The Circuit, the national defibrillator network database, which provides information on where defibrillators are located.  Registering a defibrillator with The Circuit enables emergency services, including first responders, to locate the nearest device when they are treating someone out of hospital for sudden cardiac arrest.  Registration is simple and quick to do. Circuit Clarification

In last week’s Friday mini eUpdate I said that council-owned defibrillators “must be registered” on The Circuit.   The eUpdate came to the attention of Martin Fagan, Secretary of The Community Heartbeat Trust (CHT), a charity whose aims are to help and support communities in the correct provision of defibrillators.  Martin says “If a [defibrillator] site is owned, then the owner can opt to register [with The Circuit] if they wish and are prepared to accept the T&C’s and known issues.  If it is a Managed Solution site with CHT, then the site cannot be registered onto The Circuit.”  The Circuit is a voluntary system and there is no legal requirement to register, so the use of the term “must” last week was misleading.  For more about CHT please see www.communityheartbeat.org.uk.
